The mobile web, is a generic term – like the terms “one foot experience” or the “third screen” – that refers not just to websites that are suited to mobile devices but also to the behaviour and mindsets of the people using the internet on mobile devices. It is fairly obvious that someone browsing the web on a smartphone will, most likely, be using it differently to the way they would browse the web on a desktop computer; a mobile user is likely to have a different intent.
The mobile web was almost non-existent before 2007, making up less than 2% of all web traffic, but by mid 2013, 40% of youtube traffic came from mobile devices. Mobile is seen as the biggest game changer since the internet hit the mainstream.
