Project Overview
The Brief

The Brief

Libya serves as both a major destination and transit country for refugees and migrants amid regional conflicts. With over 60,000 refugees and asylum-seekers registered and significant internal displacement, UNHCR needed an effective way to communicate real-time information from the field to raise awareness and keep the public informed.

Creative Technology

Creative Technology

Narrative Industries created an integrated communication tool that connected various APIs, including Facebook, Google Maps, Twitter, YouTube, and a content management system. This technical solution allowed front-line workers to effortlessly send updates from refugee camps, which were then dynamically displayed on a map within the UNHCR Facebook page. Additionally, Narrative designed engaging social media assets to complement the tool, enhancing overall communication efforts.

The project successfully resolved critical communication issues by providing an engaging and efficient method for real-time updates. It empowered UNHCR to raise awareness of the crisis in Libya and keep stakeholders informed with near real-time news from camp workers. The innovative use of Google Maps was praised by Google UK, and Charles Porch, Facebook’s Head of Consumer Marketing, commended the tool, stating, “This is an incredible app!”
